Here’s another suuuuper easy craft that’s great for kiddos’ rooms – or even for the kiddos to make themselves!
These wooden frames with heart-shaped cutouts are only 99 cents at Michaels Craft stores! You can’t beat that. They also sell square frames with square cutouts for $1.50.
While you’re at the craft store, grab some chalkboard paint (NOT chalk paint – that’s different) and a sponge brush and you’re all set for this easy peasy craft.
When you’re ready to paint, remember to remove the paper cutout so you can paint the edges inside. You can drop some paint on a paper plate, but I usually just plop some paint directly on the sponge brush and apply it to the frame from there.
Don’t forget to paint the inside edges of the cutout and around the edges of the frame. I paint at least two full coats, sometimes three, allowing it to dry between coats. (It only takes about five minutes to dry.)
When it’s completely dry, you’re all set to write on it with chalk! I recommend using good old fashioned chalk if you’re going to be erasing and rewriting a lot. Chalk pens tend to “stain” or leave a residue. So, if you know there’s a phrase that you want to stay more permanent, go for it, otherwise, stick with traditional chalk. Then just wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel.

Good luck and have fun with all the different opportunities this fun craft can create for you and your family!
